Falling Grounds
Plot
The story occurs at the end of Ceausescu’s reign, when Romania was undergoing strong repression.
One day, Prof. Vlad realizes that materialism is illusive and science, as practiced today, doesn’t allow him to go to the bottom of things; he has a breakdown and wants to denounce science altogether.
Novac, an anarchist and Vlad’s friend, and Ana, a religious fanatic and Vlad’s wife, believe that Peter is the solution to Vlad’s problem. They convince Vlad to invite Peter to Bucharest and travel with them through Romania, while changing ideas.
The Securist “Preda” suspects that Peter is a KGB agent who wants to spread capitalist ideas and violently overthrow Ceausescu’s regime.
Preda’s suspicion solidifies when he realizes that Novac was his revenging schoolteacher from long ago.
Preda is convinced!
This is not only his opportunity to come to terms with ‘Novac’, but also to materialize his dream of becoming nation’s ‘true hero’, by cracking down on this dangerous plot.
A story within a story
Falling ground is a twofold story, that although occurs in the socialist republic of Romania, is not necessarily a story about Romania, but rather a story that outlines how a wrong understanding of Nature and Self restrict mankind of true growth.
Falling grounds is a clash between people with different Worldviews, shaped by their environment, and each adhering to their own subjective truths till external factors pinches holes in their mental Faraday cage.
Falling grounds also outlines, through many analogies, how most, if not all societies, countries, nations and Empires, founded on false promissory notes, are ‘doomed to collapse’ because in the long run there is no substance left to sustain the perversion.
